From the 90s to The Prodigal Son

One of my favourite parables is where Jesus describes a son who takes his inheritance, leaves home, and squanders all his wealth. After much strife, he returns home after reckless living and realising his mistakes, ready to admit all his failures to his father.

"So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him" Luke 15:20 NIV.

Jesus describes what it is like when we return home to our Father. How great it is to know that even though we may turn away from God, decide to do things our own way, make mistakes, and squander our time and resources on worldly things, our Heavenly Father still stands with His arms wide open. He is always ready to welcome us back and celebrate our homecoming, despite everything.

From Worldly Nostalgia to a Life with God

Our first Parable Collection graphic tees, The Prodigal Son pays homage to the old life I once belonged to the days of the '90s and 2000s. As a young teenager watching TV shows like Saved by the Bell and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, surrounded by great American fashion and music, those felt like the best days. But looking back, it was a time spent idolising culture and consuming myself with worldly things that gave no satisfaction and lasting fulfilment.

Just like the prodigal son, my time was wasted seeking worldly things. It was only returning to Jesus and fully surrendering that I truly discovered and was reminded of what I was missing, and so 6 years later, I have never looked back. Life is definitely better with the Father! And how fortunate and loved are we to know how He feels when we return home.

A Prayer for the Return of the Prodigals

Dear Lord,

I pray that this message reaches the hearts of those who feel too far gone, too lost, or too consumed by the things of this world.

Remind them that Your arms are always open wide, waiting to welcome them home.

Give them the courage to turn back to You, to leave the past behind, and to step into the abundant life You have prepared for them - And to those who have yet to know You, may this prayer of hope bring them closer to You, a Father that brings grace, mercy, and unconditional love.

 In Jesus' name, Amen.
